What is an RFID label?

A typical RFID label is similar to a typical pressure-sensitive tag, but with a UHF RFID transponder (or inlay) embedded between the facestock and the release liner. The inlays use tiny microchips and antennas to store and transmit information to a specially designed RFID reader. Information is encoded on the inlay using a specially designed printer-encoder such as a Printronix Auto ID T6000e, T4000 or T800 RFID printer, and these labels can print additional information such as traditional barcodes, product identification or shipping information.

Much like barcodes, RFID is used to track and capture information about products, assets, and inventory, and for applications such as tracking goods through the supply chain and managing retail store inventory.

The benefits of RFID labels

Similar to barcodes, RFID tags can be affixed to individual products, boxes or pallets for data collection and tracking. However, they offer many benefits over traditional barcodes, including:
